Brighton Garden Club Awards Scholarship

The Brighton Garden Club recently awarded a $100 scholarship to Brighton High School Class of 2012 Graduate Hannah Riesser who completed a sensory garden project on the courtyard at Hawkins Elementary School for the children.

Hannah's project began when her mother noticed the garden at the Post Office was maintained by the members of the Brighton Garden Club and she contacted them to see if they could provide her with plants for her sensory garden.

Hannah presented a power point program to the Brighton Garden Club about her work in the garden.

"We like to recognize the youth who are giving back to our community by sharing the joy of gardening and the outdoors," Brighton Garden Club President Coral Adas said.

Hannah began her project at Hawkins because her early childhood education at Miller School provided her with many hands on experiences with plants and animals and she wanted to provide this for other children.

Hannah will be attending Grand Valley State University in the fall.
