Brighton DDA Plans Demolition to Make Way for Parking Garage

Demolition is not expected to start until mid-April.

The Brighton Downtown Development Authority (DDA) held a special meeting Thursday morning to award a demolition bid for the site of the future parking garage at 121 North Street.

L. Zellar Excavating & Sons, Inc., a company recommended by Brighton-based architectural firm Lindhout Associates, was awarded the project for $47,000

The DDA received 14 bidders for the project, according to DDA Executive Director Matt Modrack, who said that bids ranged from $47,000 to $98,000.

Modrack said he expected demolition to begin sometime in mid-April.

The DDA is holding off on signing a contract with Zellar Excavating, pending the successful closing on the property at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Modrack said the building should be completely down by the end of May.

"My objective is to have it down before the cafe season starts because I don't want that disruption," he said.
