Brighton Township Board Moves Forward in Manager Search

The Clerk's office received between 50 to 55 applications for the township manager position.

The Brighton Township Board of Trustees are on-track to hire a new township manager by this time next month.

Previous Township Manager Dan Bishop resigned in June in order to begin employment with the City of Albion.

The deadline for applications for the position was Sept. 8. The township received between 50-55 applications for the position, according to Clerk Ann Bollin.

A few of the candidates have requested to remain anonymous at this point in the process so names are not being released, Bollin said.

Board members will identify their top ten candidates to the Clerk's office, who will then proceed with scheduling interviews next week.

If everything goes as planned, Brighton Township will have a new manager by Oct. 15, according a schedule supplied by Bollin.

The important concern is that Supervisor Murph claims that OHM, a Wayne County Contractor, may be hired as "interim manager". The Wayne County Contractor is already inappropriately sitting with elected and appointed officials on the Planning Commission, identified as "township engineer".

It is outrageous that Murph believes he can install Wayne County Contractor employees in positions which are actually intended to be responsible to the people of Brighton Township. It is a conflict of interest which boggles the mind. Employees of the Wayne County Contractor will no doubt have allegiance to the Wayne County Contractor. Unbelievable Murph is so apparently unaware of the conflicts of interests in these situations. Or maybe that's exactly what he wants, a Wayne County Contractor identified with titles preceded by "township". He's either a clever man hoping nobody will notice the conflict of interest, or he just doesn't understand.
