Brighton Township Man Faces Charges In Death of Crane

Jeffrey Kenneth Gnielock, 46, of Brighton Township faces charges for killing a Sandhill Crane - a protected animal in the State of Michigan.
No hunting is allowed on protected animals.
Lt. Sherry Chandler, a Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officer for District 8 which includes Livingston County, said the DNR received a tip about the dead crane through its Report All Poaching hotline.
Gnielock's arraignment will take place Sept. 26. He could face fines from $100 to $1,000 and up to 90 days in jail if found guilty. He would also have to reimburse the state $100 for the death of the bird.

Glad the State is enforcing wildlife protection laws and taking poaching seriously. Thanks also goes to the person who reported it. Now hopefully the justice system will follow suit and do their job by finding him guilty. (Cannot think of one valid reason why a Sandhill Crane should legitimately be killed. They aren't exactly a threat to anyone's safety.)

If this person really did this malicious act, I hope they throw the book at him! He more than deserves it in my admittedly strongly biased opinion. There are few creatures more beautiful, and less offensive, than the sandhill cranes in our area.
