City of Brighton Receives Distinguished Financial Awards
City Council received an external audit report presentation during its meeting Thursday night.
Brighton City Council members were told by Plante & Moran external auditors that the city has once again received two distinguished financial awards from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) after receiving the audit report presentation during its meeting Thursday night.
That makes three consecutive years the city has received the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award and six consecutive years it has received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, according to Brighton City Manager Dana Foster.
Plante & Moran told City Council members that in receiving these awards, they join a very elite, very small list of other municipalities.
"I think we're fortunate to be able to receive both -it's not easy to obtain one of those," Foster said. "These awards represent a combined effort by city council, staff and the entire organization to not only generate, but follow and implement good procedures related to both daily accounting and proper control as well as best practices as it relates to budget preparation and budget execution. They're not just finance awards. The awards are recognition of the entire organization's efforts day-in-day-out."
