Demolition Begins at Future Parking Garage Site
The Downtown Development Authority is looking to build a new parking garage downtown.
Demolition has begun at the 121 North Street office building.
The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) purchased the property for $435,000 with the hopes of turning it into a parking garage.
The demolition bid was awarded to L. Zellar Excavating & Sons, Inc., for the cost of $47,000.
DDA Director Matt Modrack said he expects the demolition to be completely finished in a few weeks -before the end of May - because he does not want it to disrupt cafe season in the downtown area.

I hope they can repurpose as much of the building materials as possible. It would be the green thing to do.

Is parking really that bad downtown? If we go out to eat, its usually for lunch... haven't seen the evening.

Hi Roy. The restaurants and bars draw large crowds at night and it's hard to find parking. Rich & Associates did a parking study for the city not too long ago and said the city should to add a little more than 300 new parking spaces to handle the nightlife.
