The Detroit Tigers return home this weekend for Game 3 of the World Series down 0-2 against the San Francisco Giants, but the team's merchandise sales continue to ride a hot streak.
The Tigers are No. 2 in Major League Baseball in merchandise sales, behind the New York Yankees, whom the Tigers swept in the American League Championship Series, and just ahead of the Giants, according to the Detroit News.
The sales give the Tigers an 11 percent market share of MLB merchandise sales, compared with the Yankees' 33 percent and the Giants' 7 percent, the report said.
Employees at Fanatic U say the biggest sellers amongst Tigers merch has been the locker room T-shirts players sported after winning the ALCS, and the official playoff hoodies worn by players and skipper Jim Leyland throughout the postseason, according to the Observer & Eccentric. The store's stock of official playoff gear has diminished with the recent spike in fan interest, however, the report said.
Livonia-based Down With Detroit, a Motor City-themed T-shirt company, has offered new designs to commemorate the Tigers' playoff run, including a "Great Like '68" shirt comparing this year's squad to the World Series-winning 1968 team, as well as a shirt celebrating the Detroit's sweep of New York.
For official, MLB-licensed merchandise, the Detroit Tigers' online store also has been replenished with new wares, including the coveted World Series and AL Pennant shirts and hoodies.
