Each week, we give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week. You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.
Where/when: Brighton District Library, 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Why go: Kids ages 3 to 7 can enjoy a movie, craft and story at the library; get cozy … BYOP&B (bring your own pillow and blanket).
Pricing: Free
Where/when: Brighton Bowl, 9-11 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
Why go: Bring the whole family, but Saturday and Sunday "Dollar Days" are perfect for young bowlers. Bumpers raise automatically, making it easy to avoid the gutters. Bowling balls are available in a range of colors, starting at six pounds. Best of all, the price is right!
Pricing: $1 per game (limit three). Shoe rental, $2.75 per pair.
3. THE KETTLE PRESENTS JIM MALCOLM
Where/when: Hartland Music Hall; doors open 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Why go: One of Scotland’s finest folk singers and songwriters (he’s won several awards), Malcolm is making a repeat appearance at the music hall.
Pricing: $12 in advance and $15 at the door for adults; admission is free for kids under 11. A two-show package to see Malcolm and Julianne and the Rogues is $18. Purchase tickets through PayPal on The Kettle Coffee House’s website.
Where/when: The Opera House, downtown Howell; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Why go: Sunday marketplace is fun for the whole family.
Pricing: Free, aside from what you might buy.
5. GOT ART 2011 CONCLUDES THURSDAY
Where/when: The Opera House in downtown Howell; 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
Why go: Support local elementary school student artists by attending the exhibit; it’s open all week, but Thursday’s the last day.
