Grab & Go Kids Planner: Library Play, Children's Art and The Verve Pipe
Here are our best bets for things to do with the kids this weekend.
Whether you want to give the children a chance to play at the library, enjoy student art or listen to family-friendly music by The Verve Pipe, there are plenty of events to explore this weekend. Check it out:
1. ‘THE VERVE PIPE: A FAMILY ALBUM’
Where/when: Brighton Center for the Performing Arts, 7878 Brighton Rd. in Brighton/2 p.m. Saturday.
Why go: Michigan-based band entertains with selections from its children’s album.
Pricing: $9; tickets available through BCPA's website.
Where/when: Brighton District Library, AB Room, 100 Library Dr. in Brighton/10:30 a.m.-noon Friday.
Why go: Children of all ages can share stories, songs, rhymes, finger plays, bubbles and group play. Adult participation is required.
Pricing: Free tickets are available 30 minutes prior to program, but space is limited to 75 participants.
Where/when: Hartland Music Hall, 3619 Avon St. in Hartland/7-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Why go: This interactive program includes a classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale as well as more contemporary work designed to engage children.
Pricing: Free, but you must preregister with Cromaine District Library.
4. SURVIVAL SATURDAY – FIRE BUILDING
Where/when: Kensington Metropark, 2240 W. Buno Rd. in Milford/1 p.m. Saturday at the Nature Center.
Why go: Ages 10 and older will learn the basics of building a good fire and can practice several methods of starting campfires safely.
Pricing: $3 per person; preregister by calling 248-685-0603. (Park admission costs $5 for a daily pass.)
5. EMERGING MASTERS ART OPENING
Where/when: Huron Valley Council for the Arts, 205 W. Livingston Rd. in Highland Township/6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday.
Why go: This exhibit supports "emerging masters" by giving the public a chance to enjoy unique student artwork in a variety of media, created by students from Huron Valley Schools’ nine elementary schools.
Pricing: Free and includes light refreshments.
