Today is the second day of the Great Lakes State Fair at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi and people from all over the region arrived to enjoy it.

Livonia resident Linda Reamy said, "We went to the State Fair every year until they closed it down a few years ago. We've been missing it! When we heard it was back...well, here we are!"

According to Blair Bowman, owner of the Suburban Collection Showplace, the crowds have been steady over the first two days of the event. On-line ticket sales (new for the facility) seem to have increased traffic for the fair.

"We couldn't be happier with having the fair here - everyone is thrilled that it's back," he said. "The exhibitors have been very pleased and have enjoyed the air conditioning and the cleanliness of the facility."

Bowman said there was little challenge in having all the animals in the building. "We're used to having animals here. The dog shows are here, as are the Pet Expo and equestrian events. However, there are definitely more legs in the building this weekend than is usual!"

The fair is open 8 a.m. to midnight today through Sunday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday.

There should have been more advertising on TV about this. My family and many others would have loved to attend, if we had known this event was taking place. Like many other people, my family has truly missed our annual visitS to the State Fair! We will be sure to look for this next year. PLEASE ADVERTISE THIS EVENT MORE!!!!

Other then mail every one not sure what more they could of done. They were on the news all week, all things to do, Wjbk had it on all Saturday morning. Jay Hytower (?) was there live. I would think they spent their advertising budget, for a first yr. event. Why do people need a special invite? Oh by the way, Labor Day is always the FIRST Monday in Sept. sounds like it will be on Labor Day week end.

Totally agree. Way under-advertised for such an awesome event. Great to see the State Fair resurrected!

I suppose there are those who have not seen the Bridge Issue. Seems a lot of people don't watch news, or at least have the local stations, on FB. very costly to plaster the air waves with independent stand alone adv. each and every one of the exhib. paid for their area, a % of that goes towards adv. This was an Urban facsimile Of an old type Fair. The unofficial Michigan State Fair, now, (shape size, smells, basic ingredients of) is the IONIA Fair, it is huge, and in the farm belt of Mich. out 94.
