Looking for a Local Day Trip? Here's a Guide to Northville

Here is a list of must-do and must-see things in Northville.

 

Here is a day trip guide to Northville for a summer series called Patch Passport. The other Patch sites in Michigan — from New Baltimore to Saline and two dozen in between — are doing the same. So no matter what Patch town you visit, you'll have a guide.

Recreation

Maybury State Park 

How about a stroll and a picnic? Maybury State Park is one of Michigan's fine collection of state parks. It features nearly 1,000 acres, with a large variety of trails and activity opportunities. The trails are each tailored specifically for horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, cross-country skiing and jogging. Rolling meadows are lined by densely wooded forests. There's even an eight acre pond for fishing.

Maybury Farm

The most well-known of Northville's historic farms will be a treat for families. You can check out products made on the grounds at the working farm maintained by the Northville Community Foundation. Patrons can also walk to the barn area where there are friendly animals to meet. (You can even pet some of them.)

Mill Race Village

Explore Northville's history in a beautiful, family-friendly and educational environment. There are live demonstrations and events throughout the year in the historic buildings in the village. 

Parmenter's Northville Cider Mill (seasonal)

The Northville cider mill is a great place to take the family or grab some goodies for yourself, when it opens in the fall. You can hang out, buy cider and cider donuts, grab a seat at a table and let the kids enjoy themselves in the play area.

Art and entertainment

One thing you'll notice about Northville is that it's an artsy town.

If the theater is your brand of fun, the Tipping Point Theatre is a great option. To check out artworks of all sorts, visit the Northville Art House. Genitti's Hole-in-the-Wall also offers live dinner theatre.

There are also a number of art galleries in downtown Northville, if you want to purchase something to take home. Starring the Gallery, the Northville Gallery, State of MInd, LimeLight Emporiumand the Dancing Eye Gallery are all located in downtown Northville.

You can create pottery works to take home at the Bee's Knees on Main Street.

Food

When you're ready to take a break from all of that sight-seeing, there are several restaurants around Northville to appeal to a variety of tastes.

Rebecca's Family Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor was voted the best lunch spot by Northville Patch in our Readers' Choice contest.

If you're more interested in grabbing a drink with your meal, try Poole's Tavern, also a Readers' Choice winner, or the newly opened Brick's of Northville in the downtown area. If you're in the township, the Deadwood Bar & Grill is a great choice.

The Starting Gate Saloon has wonderful pizza and barbecue options. LeGeorge offers a more Mediterranean flavor and Tiramisu has great Italian fare.

To catch a quick sandwich, you can hit Great Harvest Bread Co., the Next Chapter Bookstore and Bistro in the downtown area or Quizno's north of Five Mile and Sheldon roads.

Shopping

There are many small businesses in the downtown area to appeal to a variety of shopping interests. Several boutiques line Main Street with clothing options. There's Van Dam's Boutique on Main Street and the newly opened Mod Fashion Boutique in the Northville Square shopping center.

If you're shopping for children and babies, you're in luck because there are a number of specialty store for them in Northville - including The Moon & Me Inc,Goody Two Shoes, Baby Baby Plus More and Baby Bliss.

Haggerty Road between Six and Eight Mile roads in Northville has many big box store shopping and dining options. You can find stores like Kohl's, next to Babies 'R' Us, and Bed, Bath & Beyond, near Barnes & Noble Booksellers.
