Three New Teachers Welcomed at Brighton Area Schools
Brighton High School and Scranton Middle School will gain new teachers this fall.
After more than 20 retirements over the past few months, Brighton Area Schools hired three new teachers during its board meeting Monday night.
Jeffery Beane and Samantha Visel will be teaching math and science, respectively, at Brighton High School while Christina Wilson, also a cheer coach, will teach English Language Arts at Scranton Middle School.
Brighton High School Principal Henry Vecchioni made the recommendations to board members and said he expects to have about 16 new hires total this year.
Wilson comes to Brighton from Gibraltar Carlson and will bring with her four past state cheerleading championships in Division 2.
Beane will be leaving his position as an administrator in Brandon School District in Ortonville. Beane said one of the factors of his decision to come to Brighton was because his wife, Mary, teaches at Hilton Elementary.
"Over the years of getting to know Brighton and seeing the great things happening here, we made the decision that we would send our children here and that if there were ever employment opportunities, then I would pursue those," Beane said.
"Jeff is volunteering to take our Algebra 1, common core classes - our most neediest students," Vecchioni said. "And I'm excited for that because looking at his experience and his knowledge, we may finally get that group of students up to where we want them."
Vecchioni said the three new hires' experience made a well rounded addition to the district.
