Weekend Picks: Local Author's Book Signing and More

Here are a few things to do in and around Brighton this weekend.

 

It’s Thursday and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Don't worry: Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our picks for this weekend:

1. BOOK SIGNING FOR LOCAL AUTHOR

Where/when: Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Why go: Meet local author Amy Ackley’s and get a signed copy of her debut young adult novel, Sign Language, released this month by Viking Juvenile (Penguin USA). It won the first Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award for Young Adult Fiction this year.

Pricing: Free.

2. ZUMBA TO HELP LACASA

Where/when: Lady of Livingston, 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Why go: Lady of Livingston hosts a weekly donation-based Zumba class. Admission is free with a donation of either cash or personal care items for LACASA, the Livingston County organization against domestic violence.

Pricing: Free with donation.

3. MOVIES AT THE MALL

Where/when: The Children's Place, 9 p.m. Saturday.

Why go: Every Saturday during the summer, Green Oak Village Place is partnering with SELCRA to bring you the Movie at the Mall experience. Movies start at dusk on the inflatable screen. Bring lawn chairs. This week enjoy Date Night.

4. BRIGHTON FARMERS MARKET

Where/when: The corner of Mill Pond Ln. and N. 1st St., 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? Spend Sunday morning strolling a market that features locally-grown produce and handmade goodies from area vendors.

5. MOTOR CITY TRIVIA

Where/when: TGI Friday's, 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.

Why go? Call the neighbor down the street, your friend from college, the really smart guy that sits in the corner cube at work and bring them all to a bar or restaurant near you to play the fastest growing craze in Metro Detroit.
