Weekend Planner: Charity Hockey, Food Drive, Madrigal Dinner and Teddy Bear Sleepover

Bringing you the latest and greatest for the weekend in Brighton and the surrounding area.

 

1. BRIGHTON LIONS CLUB COLLECTS FOOD, CASH TO HELP OTHERS 

Where: VG's Food Center & Pharmacy in Brighton and Howell Walmart, 3850 E Grand River, Howell

When: 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 (until 4 p.m. at Walmart and until 8 p.m. at VG's) 

Cost: Whatever you'd care to donate (cash or non-perishable food items)

Why go: Help out your neighbors in need

2. CHARITY HOCKEY GAME

Where: Compuware Sports Arena, 14900 N. Beck Road, Plymouth

When: 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 (your ticket also gets you into the Plymouth Whalers vs. the Windsor Spitfires 7 p.m. game)

Cost:  $12; get tickets here; select Brighton PD tickets to make sure $4 of your admission goes to the Livingston County "Shop with a Cop" Program

Why go: Have a great evening out: see two hockey games and support a great charity that helps your neighbors

3. TEDDY BEAR SLEEPOVER

Where: Brighton District Library

When: 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4

Cost: Free, but must pre-register; call 810-229-6571

Why go: Teddy Bear sleepover offers an evening of stories and fun from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4 at Brighton District Library (Room A/B). Children ages 5-6 should come with their caregiver and a teddy bear or other snuggly friend for dinner and dessert.

4. SURVIVAL SATURDAY: SHELTER BUILDING

Where: Kensington Metropark (Nature Center), 2240 W. Buno Road, Milford

When: 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 

Cost: $3 per person; if you don't have an annual park pass, there's a $5 daily park entry fee

Why go: This event is for anyone who wants to learn outdoor survival skills

5. MADRIGAL DINNER AT PARKER HIGH SCHOOL

Where: Parker Middle School, 400 Wright Road, Howell

When: 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4

Cost: $18 for adults and seniors; $15 for students; children under five admitted free

Why go: How often do you get a chance to hear madrigal music? Thought so.
