Weekend Planner: Theater, Holiday Boutique and Charity Clothing, Metal and Toy Drives

Here's a look at what's happening around town this weekend.

 

 

1. HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE AND BAKE SALE

Where: St Paul's Episcopal Church

When: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12

Cost:  Free admission; baked goods and boutique items vary in price

Why go:  Enjoy viewing (and buying) hand-crafted items by local artisans, take part in a raffle to aid Somalian hunger victims and enjoy taking part in a cookie walk

2. CHURCH HOSTS CLOTHING DRIVE

Where: St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 2201 S Old Us Highway 23, Brighton

When: all day on Saturday, Nov. 12 and Sunday, Nov. 13

Cost: Free

Why go: Donate gently-used clothing and aid the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's mission to help others buy affordable, good-quality clothes

3. 'FILL THE BUS' FOR TOYS FOR TOTS 

Where: South Lyon McDonald's, 22101 Pontiac Trail in South Lyon

When: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13

Cost:  Donations of new, unwrapped toys, new children's clothes and cash will be accepted

Why go:  Help to literally fill a bus parked next to the restaurant with new toys and clothes for kids in need; also, on Saturday, at 1 p.m., Ronald McDonald, Chief Happiness Officer, makes an appearance

4. 'ANNE OF GREEN GABLES'

Where: Historic Green Oak Township Hall, 10789 Silver Lake Road, South Lyon

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13

Cost:  $14 at the door; advance tickets for the show are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $8 for children ages 13 and younger; call 810- 588-3662, email e-mail thephoenixplayers@gmail.com or get them through the website at www.thephoenixplayers.org.

Why go:  See this charming children's classic performed by the Phoenix Players Phire Phlies youth theater group

5.  SCRAP METAL DRIVE FOR CHARITY

Where: St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish Life Center (parking lot)

When: noon-6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 (these times have K of C members/other volunteers to help unload) or drop off items unassisted anytime Sunday, Nov. 13 or before noon Monday, Nov. 14

Cost: Free (for abandoned automobile, truck, bus, farm equipment or large items, please Regal Recycling for FREE pickup: (517) 546-3820. Mention coupon code KC7304)

Why go: Get rid of the metal yard/garage/basement clutter and aid events and charities supported by nights of Columbus, Fr. J. Leo McCann Council #7304
