Will Red Wings' Nicklas Lidstrom Announce Retirement Thursday?
The Red Wings have called for an announcement at 11 a.m.
The Detroit Red Wings announced they will be holding a press conference Thursday morning with defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom and general manager Ken Holland.
So the big question on everyone's mind is, is Lidstrom retiring?
Lidstrom, 42, lives in Novi with his family during the hockey season and has been debating whether to retire after playing for 20 seasons in the NHL.
He has won four Stanley Cups and seven Norris trophies, which recognize the top defensive player in the NHL each year.
What do you think - will Lidstrom be retiring? How will the Red Wings handle the loss?

He needs to step aside. His play fell off quite a bit this year and he became a "part timer" during penalty kills. Given his paycheck, it will clear a lot of $ towards a younger "full time" defensive player. Don't get me wrong, a quality PERSON, and still a relatively good player. But given the end of this season, our need for additional physical players, particularly on defense, are a must.
