Brighton Filmmaker Shares Experience in New Book

Kevin Lindenmuth's third how-to book was released earlier this month.

Ever since he was a child, Kevin Lindenmuth always had a passion for writing and making movies. The Brighton resident grew up to be a successful independent filmmaker who spent 13 years in the industry in New York before moving back to Michigan. Now, he's sharing the experience of not only himself, but two dozen other filmmakers in his third how-to book, How to Make Movies: Low-Budget/No-Budget Indie Experts Tell All. "This third book is sort of a follow up to the two previous books I did," he said. "With those, it was basically asking all these filmmakers similar questions - how do they go about getting their actors, how do they go about putting together production, getting their music. Brighton High School Spring Musical Tickets Now on Sale

Disney's "Beauty & The Beast" show dates are set for April 26-28 and May 2-5 at the Brighton Center for Performing Arts.

Tickets are now on sale for the Brighton High School Spring Musical, Disney's Beauty and The Beast. According to the Brighton Musical Facebook page, purchasing a ticket to one of the eight shows will save you $5 off a purchase of $25 or more at several downtown Brighton restaurants.  Participating restaurants include Champ's Pub, Downtown Main Martini Bar & Grill, 440 Main, Sagano Japanese Bistro & Steakhouse, Pi's Asian Cuisine, Stillwater Grill, Brighton Bar and Grill, Ciao Amici's, The Wooden Spoon and The Pound Bar & Grill.  Musical Theater Technical Director Josh Holowicki said they have some technological tricks up the sleeve to pull of the 'magic' that happens in the Disney fairytale.  The greatest love story ever told will grace …

City of Brighton Adds 16th Art Piece to Permanent Downtown Collection

City Council members approved the purchase of the sculpture "Spiral" during its meeting last week.

The City of Brighton has added the 16th piece of art to its permanent collection during the City Council meeting last week. The sculpture “Spiral” by West Bloomfield artist Maureen Voorheis and fabricator Jim Ignash from Howell, was purchased with private donations. The piece was originally installed for a two-year display in the Brighton Outdoor Sculpture exhibit in July 2009 on W. Grand River, in front of Tim Horton’s. The Brighton Arts and Culture Commission (BACC) identified “Spiral” as one of the sculptures they wanted to purchase for permanent display. Books are available to checkout at the Brighton District Library prior to the 85th Academy Awards on Sunday.

This year, 11 Academy Award nominees are based on books or book series. As much as five of the nine films listed in the Best Picture category are book adaptations. The movie industry took a lot of inspiration from books this year, so before checking out all the Hollywood glitz and glamour, head over to the Brighton District Library and borrow one of these available books. Yann Martel’s Life of Pi, was adapted to the big screen by Director Ang Lee. DIA Picks Brighton for Inside|Out Program

The city is among 25 throughout Metro Detroit chosen to host outdoor art installations this spring and summer.

The Detroit Institute of Arts has selected Brighton among the 25 Metro area communities that will feature Inside|Out outdoor art installations this spring and summer. "Now in its fourth year, Inside|Out brings reproductions of masterpieces from the DIA’s collection to the streets of metro Detroit," a DIA press release said. "Inside|Out aims to connect with audiences outside the museum walls in places where they live, work and play." Ryan Gosling Casting Actors in Michigan

He will be filming "How to Catch a Monster" beginning in May in Metro Detroit.

Hollywood hearthrob Ryan Gosling will be in town this spring to direct a film and is casting local actors for several parts. Gosling will be filming "How to Catch a Monster," starring "Mad Men's" Christina Hendricks, beginning in May in Metro Detroit, according to WXYZ. This won't be the actor's first movie in Michigan; he filmed "The Ides of March" with George Clooney in 2011 in Clawson. However, it will be Gosling's directorial debut.
