Every Saturday, Patch will highlight a pet from the Humane Society of Livingston County. If you want to adopt a new best friend, call (517) 552-8050 or stop by the facility in Genoa Township, 2464 Dorr Rd, open noon-8 p.m. Mon., and noon-5 p.m. Wed.-Sun. Closed Tuesdays.Hello! My name is Scrappy! I'm a young adult, probably 1 1/2-2 years old, who was found as a stray. I was rescued from a busy roadway and brought to safety. No owner ever came forward to claim me so now I'm looking for a new forever home. I weigh about 40 pounds and am a happy-go-lucky type of guy. I'm a high energy dog right now but need to be kept as quiet as possible for a bit. I tested positive for heart worm and will need to be treated. The HSLC does this free of charge at the shelter for whomever adopts me. Until I finish my treatment I am supposed to have restricted activity such as …
Hello, my name is Bear. I'm a short-haired handsome black cat who was found as a stray. Since I was not claimed by my former owner, I'm now looking for my forever home. I am guesstimated to have been born around 3/2011. I'm sweet and friendly with everyone I've met so far. Because I was a stray, the staff is unsure if I've ever been around other animals or kids in the past.
Hello everyone! My name is Mike. I'm a handsome Black Lab mix with some white markings. I was born around 1/2012 so I'm still quite young! Unfortunately, I wasn't socialized very well so I'm timid and shy. I also do sometimes submissively urinate especially if I am being corrected. I need a gentle and patient owner who will work with me to build my confidence. This can be achieved by creating positive situations for me when going to new places and meeting new people. The staff thinks I would do fine around children but please keep in mind that I do scare easily so older kids may be best. I …
Hello, my name is Mitzi. I'm a senior Aussie who was born on June 6, 2004. I originally lived with an older man who had no kids. Unfortunately, he became ill and could not come home. I then spent two months in a boarding kennel while the workers tried to find me a home. They thought they did and I was in that home for almost 5 weeks before being dropped off here. While I was at the boarding kennel, they observed that I did well with other dogs. The person who took me for 5 weeks said that I am dominant. I have had no issues with other dogs here and the staff thinks I'd be fine with another …
Hi, my name is Tiny. That's an odd name for a dog that weighs about 56 pounds! I was born around 2008. I was surrendered because I did not get along with the 3-year-old twins in my home. My original owner passed away and I was taken in by a family member with children. I am not used to being around rambunctious kids who sometimes teased me. I am a happy, happy boy who loves everyone I meet! I have lived with a cat and did fine. I haven't lived with another dog so I would need to meet any new prospective canine siblings before going home with them. I'm well mannered and completely house …
Hi, my name is Mayzie. I'm a pretty mixed breed who was born around May 2012. I weigh under 50 pounds. I seem to be house trained but do need to learn some basic commands. I'm a high-energy dog who can sometimes play a bit rough. Because of that the staff recommends no small kids. I also will sometimes growl when eating so please keep that in mind before adopting me. I should be adopted by a person who's willing to work a bit with me on some manners and training. I like some dogs but not others so, if you have a dog at home, they'll have to come meet me here at the shelter! I don't mind cats …
Hi, my name is Tanger. I am a former stray who earned the name Tanger because I was found near the outlet mall. It's estimated that I was born sometime in 2009. I weigh just over 56 pounds. I'm a pretty laid back dog who would likely do well in a home with kids and other animals. I am an escape artist here and had to be extra-secured into my kennel to keep me in. Sometimes I'm a bit shy when I first meet people.
Hi, my name is Shiera. I'm a very friendly, affectionate female Lab mix born in 2008. I am typically quiet, but can also be quite active and playful. I have been around kids of all ages and do great! I get along with some dogs, but probably would not be good with small dogs or cats in the home. I am completely house trained and walk nicely on a leash too. I was happy in my previous home, but my family gave me up because I had some food allergies they could not afford to care for properly. Thankfully, after receiving some extra care here at the Humane Society, my itchy skin has cleared up now…
Hello, my name is Iggy. I am a 1 1/2 year old Chow and Schipperke mix who was an owner surrender. My owner gave me up due to having to suddenly move to handle a family emergency and I wasn't allowed to go. I am completely house trained and know basic commands. I love to play fetch and I'd be a great running or jogging companion for someone. I should be the only male dog in my home. I seem to ignore cats. Because of my nervousness around some people, it's recommended that I go to a home without small kids. I act more timid around males than females but do warm up.
Hi, my name is Sparky. I'm a 2 1/2 year old Jack Russel and Chihuahua mix. I weigh less than 20 pounds and have energy like the Energizer bunny! I would be best with older kids only because I am overly eager to grab treats from hands and may accidentally nip a young child. I do well with other dogs and seem afraid of cats. I was transferred from another shelter where I was turned in as a stray. It's unknown if I'm house trained. I should be crated when left alone to keep me out of trouble. My favorite thing to do is to play fetch so I hope my new family likes to play, too!
Hello everyone! My name is Ranger! I'm a 3-year-old purebred Pointer. I'm quite the handsome guy if I do say so myself. I am a former stray who was never claimed by anyone. I was then transferred to the HSLC shelter where I was adopted into a home with several other dogs. I did well in one-on-one situations but once all of us were out playing, I got a little too agitated and started some fights. I don't seem to read dog language too well sometimes. I am an active, high-energy dog that will need daily exercise. In fact, I'd be a great running or jogging companion! I am partially house trained …
Hi, my name is Bailey. I'm a 9 month old Yellow Lab mix who is very friendly! I was given up because my owner went away to college. I am house trained and have excellent manners. I know basic commands and love to go for walks! I've been trained to use an invisible fence when outdoors, too! I will make an excellent family pet and am anxious to meet you!
Hi, my name is Chloe. I am a 3-year-old mixed breed who looks like I'm probably Whippet and Lab mix. I was given up when my owner moved. I am a medium-sized girl who is a complete lovebug! I love to give kisses on the face but will stop when asked. I am well-mannered in a home and completely house trained. I will chase cats and other small animals and should have a fenced yard when outdoors. I'm quite active and would make an excellent running or jogging companion. I've been around children over the age of 8 years and do well.
My name is Stardust. I am a very pretty, unique-looking Husky Lab/Retriever mix who has one blue eye and one brown eye. I'm about 3-years-old, and weigh about 62 pounds. I am a constant runner and also like to go over fences. So, keeping me safe at home is going to be priority one. I am energetic and playful with children, but don't do so well with other dogs, so I need to be the only dog in my next home. I'm a little too playful with cats, too, so it is best if I am the only pet. I am house trained, know commands and just a REALLY FUN DOG! I'd be a great companion for an active person who's …
Hi, my name is Geronimo. I'm a former stray that was never claimed. I am estimated to have been born around Feb. 14, 2010. I weigh about 73 pounds. Because I was a stray, the staff doesn't know if I've ever lived with other animals or kids. I'm a high-energy sort of dog that would be great for an active person or family. I'm good with some dogs and there are some I don't seem to like. The staff says it seems like I'm house trained but I may need some reminders. Won't you take me home?
My name is BooBoo. I'm an adult Husky that was born around March 2009. I currently weigh about 50 pounds but am on the thin side so I may will fill out a bit more. I'm completely house trained and also have good house manners. I can get along with most other dogs that are similar in size but may chase smaller dogs or other small animals. I am sometimes a little nervous with men at first but then do warm up and I love attention! I would be a fine match for a home with kids who are used to a dog. I should have a fence because my breed is known for being runners.
Hi, my name is Roscoe. I'm a 4 1/2 year old Beagle and Brittany mix. I was given up because I was left outdoors and barked all the time. I was lonely and just trying to get someone to pay attention to me. If I had been allowed to be inside with my family, then I would have been happy. I'm an active and playful sort of dog that is good with cats and kids. I love to go for car rides, too! I will run if not confined so I must have a fenced yard or other form of containment for outdoors. I do well with other dogs but may play too rough with cats.
Hi, my name is Buck. I'm a male Lab and Spaniel mix who was born on March 7. I weigh about 43 pounds right now and will probably gain a few more pounds because I'm still a growing puppy. Because I'm still young, I have a lot of energy and am not yet completely house trained. I am working on that right now. I lived with kids as young as 7 years old and did well. I know basic commands and walk well on a leash. I love swimming and playing fetch!
Hi, I'm Marcus! I'm a handsome Chocolate Lab who was born around 2007 and I weigh about 68.5 pounds. I was transferred from an animal control facility up North. I arrived there as a stray wearing a flea collar and no other identification. It's unknown if I've ever been around other animals or kids. I am somewhat dominant with other dogs so I'd need to meet one another before going home with another dog. I'm a playful and fun guy and am hoping for an active owner!
Hello, my name is Razzle and I'm a true "rescued Beagle." I was taken along with four other dogs from a so-called "breeder" who was neglecting us. I'm pretty much terrified of everyone and everything at first but I'm getting better every day! I'm a typical Beagle, but am mostly black and tan. I get along great with other dogs and even like cats! I'd love a home with another dog because they are what I'm most used to! My new family just needs to keep in mind that I'm not used to things most dogs see or hear or feel every day so I'm going to need some extra tender loving care and time! I have …
