Livingston Dems Showing "Gasland II"

A powerful film that examines the threat of fracking to our water, air, land, and way of life is coming to Livingston County this month.

Gasland II is a follow-up to the Oscar-nominated film Gasland, by filmmaker Josh Fox. In this new film, Fox not only explores, with dark humor, the environmental effects of fracking, but also looks at the growing influence on our political process of money from oil and gas interests.

The film will be shown on Friday, March 21, at Livingston County Democratic Party headquarters, 10321 Grand River Road, Suite 600, in Brighton. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The film starts at 7 p.m.

A panel discussion will follow led by Evelyn Gallegos, a member of the Livingston County Democratic Executive Committee. She has a master's of science degree  in physical geography and  is a past volunteer with Huron River Watershed Council and served on Brighton Township's Lakes Committee. Also participating will be Jim Katakowski of Hamburg Township, who has followed the fracking controversy here in Livingston County, and Todd Bazzett of Hartland Township, a member of the Committee to Ban Fracking in Michigan.

Refreshments will be available. There is no charge for the film, but donations will be accepted for refreshments.
