Statewide Online School Receives High Marks From Parents

Students across Michigan are thriving at Michigan Connections Academy (MICA), a tuition-free online public school for students in grades K-12, according to a recent Parent Satisfaction Survey conducted by the school. MICA gives students the flexibility to learn at home with Michigan-certified teachers and a curriculum that meets rigorous state education standards.

A review of the online school’s Parent Satisfaction Survey shows that 93 percent of parents give MICA an “A” or “B” grade for its overall program. This mark stands well above public school ratings from the 44th Annual Phi Delta Kappa/Gallup Poll of the Public’s Attitudes Toward the Public Schools, in which 77% of public school parents gave the public school their oldest child attends an “A” or a “B” grade.

MICA provides a high quality public education that combines an award-winning curriculum  with state-of-the-art technology tools. Students also receive personalized attention from state-certified teachers and the opportunity to work at a pace that is right for them. A Learning Coach, typically a parent or other responsible adult, oversees daily schedules and keeps up motivation in the home.

Among parents and guardians, there were also high satisfaction rates for MICA’s teaching staff and curriculum. More than 96 percent of parents said they are satisfied with the helpfulness of their children’s teachers, while 98 percent agree that the school’s curriculum is high-quality.

The goal at MICA is to serve over 1,800 students in the 2013-2014 school year. Much of the school’s growth is a result of positive word-of-mouth from parents with students already enrolled, as 94 percent of MICA parents would recommend the school to parents of children not enrolled in the program.

“Parents decide to send their children to Michigan Connections Academy for a variety of reasons, including the desire for a flexible schedule or a safe learning environment,” said Bryan Klochack, MICA principal. “Many admit that the reason for sending their child to Michigan Connections Academy is because they want a change in the learning environment. In fact, 50 percent of the parents we surveyed agreed that their child doesn’t learn well in a traditional school environment. We’re pleased that our parents have given our school great grades, as we are committed to providing educational services that result in exceptional student achievement.”

Enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year is still open. For more information about Michigan Connections Academy, call 1-800-382-6010 or visit http://www.michiganconnectionsacademy.com
