BHS Alumni Chooses Community Over Corporation in Publishing Her First Book

Marissa Bloom, known to her Brighton high school classmates as Marissa Dixon, debuted her first book "All Are Family" on KickStarter.com.

Emerging children’s author and Brighton High School Class of 1998 Alumni, Marissa Bloom, utilized a popular community-funding website to raise $8500 with the purpose to publish her first book. Her grassroots publishing company, Little Linden Press, has been newly formed to take on the task.

Bloom debuted her first book All Are Family on KickStarter.com, a website used to help artists and creators bring their visions to reality. Her funding goal is $8500; those pledging have the opportunity to choose rewards, such as the book, in return for their financial support.

Bloom’s motto is, “Children’s Books Nurturing Community and Connection.” She first read her books for an audience at this year’s Loveland Loves Literature event. All Are Family is illustrated by local veteran artist Matt Kaufmann and is the first of several books currently in the works.

Bloom, formerly known to her high school classmates as Marissa Dixon, moved to California shortly after graduation. There she met her husband, Benny Aste; they now reside with their two children in his hometown of Loveland, Colorado. Despite his Colorado roots, Aste has family in the Brighton area. Marissa hopes to plan a visit soon, for her 16 year class reunion.
