Brighton DDA Approves Funds for Mill Pond Testing

A sediment sampling of the Brighton Mill Pond will determine course of action for dredging project.

On Tuesday morning, the Brighton Downtown Development Authority approved a request of more that $9,000 to have the sediment at the bottom of the Brighton Mill Pond tested.

According DDA Director Matt Modrack, the board will allocate $9,570 for TetraTech consulting engineering services related to the sediment sampling and lab analysis for the Mill Pond Dredging project.

On Thursday, the Brighton City Council agreed to approach the DDA to ask for the funds, according to a report from WHMI.

City Manager Dana Foster explained that the sediment testing would enable the city to determine the size and scope needed, according the WHMI report, which would determine whether the city should proceed or pursue a less expensive route of weed and algae control.

Modrack had no timeline for when the city expected to have results from the testing.
