"Childhood obesity is a global epidemic that affects 30 percent of Michigan youth.  As a result, we are seeing a growing number of children in Livingston County with obesity-related health issues, including chronic illnesses such as Type 2 diabetes and hypertension, as well as social and emotional distress," says Rob Casalou, president and CEO, St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and Livingston hospitals. "This event will raise money to help us combat these concerning statistics."

With the funds raised, St. Joseph Mercy Livingston will offer innovative and engaging school outreach programs and specialized nutrition, exercise and counseling services that encourage family involvement and will be made affordable for those in need.

"Healthy weight is a foundation for overall good health and can contribute to productive sleep, increased energy and ability to focus, and enhanced participation in school and social activities," Casalou.

Penny and Mark Baumeier, and Livingston County community, St. Joseph Mercy Livingston seeks to raise $80,000 for this cause.
