Livingston Council Hunger Council Will Host a Community Screening of 'A Place at the Table'

"A Place at the Table" will be shown on November 12 at the 2│42 Community Church.

Today, more than 50 million Americans across the country face hunger, including 23.5 million children.  Even in Livingston County, Michigan, 17,850 neighbors and friends do not always know where their next meal is coming from.

The Livingston County Hunger Council has “taken their place at the table” in the fight to end hunger and engage the larger community to ensure that all Livingston County families and their children have access to enough healthy food.

The Livingston County Hunger Council is a coalition of individuals, businesses, faith-based organizations, schools, municipalities, and non-profits, committed to finding sustainable solutions for hunger in Livingston County, because all people deserve enough food for a healthy, active life.

Over the last few years, the Council has reduced a significant gap between meals needed and meals provided by creating a food pantry network, expanding programs, focusing on nutrition, and engaging residents in growing community gardens.

Now the Hunger Council has turned its attention to building on a strategic plan for the future, and invites you “to take your place at the table”.  Learn more by attending a special community screening of the critically-acclaimed documentary film, “A Place at the Table”, 6 p.m., November 12, at 2│42 Community Church.

The film examines the crisis of food security, hunger, obesity, and food access.  It intends to generate community conversations about hunger in our own neighborhoods and get people involved in finding lasting solutions to end local hunger.  Local experts will participate in a moderated discussion of the issues immediately following the film.

Ultimately, “A Place at the Table” shows us how hunger poses serious economic, social, and cultural implications for our nation, and suggests that by working together – it can be solved.
