Salvation Army Issues Urgent Appeal for Red Kettle Campaign Donations

Donations for the Salvation Army of Washtenaw County will be accepted through Jan. 31 to help the charity reach its goal of $330,000.

The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County (TSA-WC) is turning to the community for help and support during the holidays.

While it’s iconic red kettles and bell ringers will disappear from Washtenaw County storefronts on Christmas Eve, Kroger and Busch’s stores will continue to host bell ringers and kettles through Dec. 29 to help the charity reach its goal of $330,000.

The TSA-WC is $40,000 behind this same point in last year’s campaign, which is jeopardizing the nonprofit’s chances of achieving its 2012 goal.

Beyond red kettle donations, TSA-WC will also continue to accept campaign contributions through Jan. 31.

There are several ways to contribute to the Salvation Army's fundraising drive:

  • Visit www.sawashtenaw.org.
  • Send a check to:
    • The Salvation Army Ann Arbor Corps, 100 Arbana Drive, Ann Arbor, MI. 48103
    • The Salvation Army Ypsilanti Corps, 9 S. Park St., Ypsilanti, MI. 48198

“The generosity of Washtenaw County community members in donating to the Salvation Army red kettles is what keeps us providing services throughout the year,” said Maj. John Williams, Washtenaw County coordinator. “It’s that continued compassion for neighbors in need that will help us reach our 2012 fundraising goal.”

In 2012, TSA-WC helped provide more than 32,200 meals, 21,900 nights of shelter and 7,500 Christmas gifts to individuals and families.
