Successful Tour de Livingston Nets $23,000 for Livingston County United Way

Howell Rotary Club members presented a check for $23,600 to Nancy Roso, Director of the Livingston County United Way on Monday, thanks to a successful Tour de Livingston cycling event last fall.

The Tour de Livingston was held Oct. 14, 2012 as a fundraiser and community fitness and recreation event. All funds raised are used for basic needs in Livingston County, including housing and food.

The club held the Tour de Livingston celebration event as part of its regular weekly meeting at noon at the Community Room of Saint Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital in Howell. Sponsors, major donors and volunteers were recognized.

“This is our club’s signature event,” said Club President Sam Vasiu. “Funds raised by the Tour de Livingston make a major impact on the lives of those in need in this community and help us fulfill the mission of Rotary.”

Over 450 cyclists participated in the event, cycling routes from the 5 mile Family Fun Loop, a 32-mile Parks Loop to a full 100 mile route that wound through Livingston and Washtenaw counties.

In order to qualify for one of the iconic Tour de Livingston cycling jerseys, riders had to pledge a minimum of $250.

Two Jersey Riders far exceeded that: George Moses of the George Moses Company raised $2,000 and Ron Wilson, superintendent of Howell Public Schools raised $1,400 in pledges.

The 2013 Tour de Livingston will be held on Sunday, October 13.
