The winners of the swan boat naming contest at Kensington Metropark have been decided and patrons will now be able to identify each boat by its own unique moniker. The winning names are:

  • Odette (the swan princess from Swan Lake) suggested by Susie Wayntraub from Southfield.
  • Cygnus (the swan constellation) suggested by Kristie Carpenter of Wayne.
  • Thor (the super hero) suggested by Callie Reeves of South Lyon.
  • Noodle, suggested by Janice and Caroline Huang of Troy.

Back in late July, visitors were asked to submit their most creative and clever names for the park’s new swan pedal boats.

The top 10 submissions were selected by Kensington staff members, and then voted on to determine the winning four. Winners received three free hours of ride time aboard the new boats, to be redeemed either this season or the next.

Swan boats are rented daily through the summer; after Labor Day weekend, swan boats are rented weekends only, through September 15, for $15 per hour, plus a $20 deposit, cash only (credit cards are not accepted). Up to five persons can ride in a swan boat.
