These Declarations of Love Will Make Your Heart Melt

In honor of Sweetest Day, we asked you to tell us why you love your "sweetie." Here are answers from Patch readers, including Rochester Hills resident Elizabeth Forester, who won our contest.

Saturday is Sweetest Day, and while not everyone celebrates the holiday (some call it a "Hallmark Holiday -- a day made up by card companies in order to reap profit), declaring your love to the "sweetie" in your life is sure to produce smiles and lots of good feelings all around.

Even better? Make that declaration in public.

Dozens of you answered our call to "Tell Us About Your Sweetie" in Patch's Sweetest Day contest, and we got some real gems, including this one from Elizabeth Forester of Rochester Hills, our grand prize winner who won a date night car rental and a $100 Visa gift card from Varsity Lincoln in Novi:

  • "My sweet match found my beloved lost pug on my birthday! It is truly a heartwarming "tail;" he searched for her day and night with me. He expresses his love and devotion to me through art. His drawings, songs and paintings make me so happy. Friends and family cannot help but smile during gatherings at our home that is filled with his homemade gifts of the heart."

Our first prize winner, Vicki Webster, who won a couples massage from the Health Spa of Plymouth, said, "My husband is my best friend and will do anything he can to make me and our two daughters happy!!"

And our second prize winner, Tammy Westlake of Macomb Township, who won a $50 gift card from Joe's Produce in Livonia, said:

  • "My sweetie and I have been married for 15 years, he has given me three beautiful babies thru the years. ... He is the man I hope my boys aspire to grow up to be like and the type of man I hope my daughter finds to spend her life with. ... To some people he may just look like an ordinary guy, but to me... he is the most wonderful man that walks the earth, and I will love him until the day that I die."

Here are some more "declarations of love" from our readers that made us smile:

  • DCHe is the ball to my socket, the peanut butter to my jelly, the Sanford to my son.

  • Marcey Uday-RileyMy husband became my husband on 12/12/12. It was also my 65th Birthday. He is not a young person either. We both have all the baggage that comes with former lives but we also have all the hopes and dreams that come with the knowledge that every day brings an opportunity for love, laughter and joy--for us and for our families. He and I are more than each other’s sweeties; we are the proverbial "other half" we each had been looking for. I keep saying how lucky I am to have found him; he keeps saying how lucky he is to have caught me. We have our health, our family, our friends and our lives together. We are both lucky, and we know it.

  • Miriam SkiminWe met at our university as kids, 38 years ago. The sparks were instant; truly love at first sight! Now we have four kids of our own, and feel so lucky to have found each other. We are best friends and supportive through thick and thin. My sweetie and I will celebrate our 35th year of marriage on October 22.

  • Chris F: My sweetie would be my best friend, also known as my wife, Fay. We were married for almost eight years before having our little girl Violet, who's now a year old. I didn't think it was possible, but I love her even more since becoming parents. She doesn't realize how I love sitting on the couch as I watch her read and play with our baby. She has the biggest heart of anyone I know. I made the best decision of my life at the age of 23 when I married my sweetie. I love the woman/sister/daughter/friend she is, the mother she's become and wife I'm incredibly honored to have.
