Boots and Bikinis Wins Week 3 of Your Patch of Michigan 2012 Photo Contest

Some determined Girl Scouts and a chilly mom make for a true Michigan moment caught on camera to capture the weekly prize.

With more than 100 photographs submitted in , choosing a winner should have been difficult. But it wasn't. That's because this week's winner screamed "Michigan."

When Angelina Sacco of Macomb planned to take her Girl Scout troop camping in Lexington, MI, in early June, they were hoping for warm weather to swim at the beach. However, in true Michigan fashion, temperatures dropped from the upper 80s the weekend before the trip to the 60s the weekend of the camp out.

"On Saturday, the weather was partly sunny and a high of about 65 degrees. The lifeguard showed up and the girls were determined to go to the beach, so we did," Sacco said.

"Some of the girls put on their bikinis and actually went swimming, a few played on the beach wearing jeans and long-sleeved shirts while one mom, Carla Amore of Macomb, who came with her daughter for the day, showed up on the beach sporting her parka and snow boots trying to stay warm."

Ah, Michigan and Michiganders.

Sacco's entry was selected out of more than 100 delightful photos submitted for , the third week of the Your Patch of Michigan 2012 photo contest. Sacco wins a $50 gift certificate to   in Birmingham, which offers a unique selection of antiques and vintage hand-painted furniture and accessories that were rescued, donated or purchased.

You, too, can share your visions of Michigan in photos in the Your Patch of Michigan photo contest.

Every week through Labor Day we'll have a new photo gallery and a new winner chosen by a panel of Michigan Patch editors. Each weekly winner will get a prize worth roughly $50.

After Labor Day, we'll pick a grand prize winner from all of the weekly winners. The grand prize winner will receive a certificate for a two-night stay at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island (to be used before Oct. 31, 2013, and blackout dates and other restrictions may apply). The approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is $600.

Do you need to be Ansel Adams to win this? No. The single qualification for photos you send is that they say "Michigan" to you.

I read the title "Boots and Bikini's" and thought it would be about the woman crossing 13 Mile Rd on Monday, riding a pink Schwinn and wearing cowboy boots and a bikini!

Jennifer: What?! I hope you got a photo of that! :)

If the week 3 runner up from East Lansing is of the Red Cedar on the campus of MSU, I want a framed copy.

I did indeed...just to prove I wasn't crazy. But I'm too technologically challenged to post it!!
