Brighton Welcomes the DIA

The Detroit Institute of Arts Inside|Out program will be in Brighton starting this July.

The Brighton Arts and Culture Commission will once again be welcoming the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) into the community this summer with the Inside|Out program.

For the fourth year, seven reproductions of the DIA's most famous masterpieces from its collection will be on display throughout the community starting in July.

Sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, installation is expected to be completed by July 4, according to a press release, and several area organizations have planned educational opportunities and other activities including:

  • A community “thank you” from the DIA at the June 6 Brighton City Council meeting.
  • An invitation-only kickoff event on July 10 at Studio West Gallery followed by a walking tour (open to the public) of the installations with a DIA representative.
  • Paintings will be on display at Art Ventures, 422 W. Main St., after July 20 for public voting until August 2, at which time they will be moved to a large tent during the Brighton Fine Art & Acoustic Music Festival for public voting.
  • A free community weekend at the DIA for Brighton residents on July 20-21.
