RJ Spangler Trio & Jazz Master Larry Smith Concert

The RJ Spangler Trio with special guest Michigan jazz master Larry Smith on alto sax will perform in concert  at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29 on the main level of the Howell Carnegie District Library.

Detroit blues legend Alberta Adams, known as the “Queen of the Blues,” was to headline the event but library officials say they recently received notice that the 94-year-old Adams is currently under a doctor’s care and will be unable to perform.

say the show will go on and RJ is a veteran musician with a longtime presence in the Detroit music scene and elsewhere.

The concert kicks off a month of events tied to the Great Michigan Read book selection “Arc of Justice: A Saga of Race, Civil Rights and Murder in the Jazz Age” by Kevin Boyle.
