Sizzling Summer Concert Series Features Chuck Newsome Jazz Trio

Trio's eclectic acoustic jazz features originals, modern and American songbook.

Join us at the for the second in our series of free outdoor summer concerts July 16 from 7–8 p.m. Enjoy an eclectic acoustic jazz performance by The Chuck Newsome Jazz Trio. The band’s repertoire of music includes original compositions, songs from the American songbook and modern jazz compositions. The trio includes Michael Palazzola on acoustic bass, Stephen Beogehold on drums and Chuck Newsome on guitar.

Chuck Newsome began playing piano at age 7, and later played trumpet in his teens. Finally, he found the guitar at 18 and immediately began working intensively on studying it. He has been working professionally as a musician and music educator for more than ten years. Newsome has studied with Steve Carryer and Fareed Haque.  He has performed with Joe Lovano, Eddie Daniels, Kurt Elling, John Clayton, Diane Schuur, Chris Collins, Russ Miller, Rob Pipho, Gary Schunk, David Taylor, and Sean Dobbins, among many others. In addition, he has been featured as a guest soloist with the Wayne State University Big Band. He holds a Masters of Music degree from Wayne State University and is an adjunct faculty member and teacher in the Department of Music at Wayne. Newsome performs in several different groups, locally and nationally, and maintains a full studio for private lessons.

Michael Palazzolo began playing saxophone in his youth before switching his focus to bass late in high school. Michael has studied with Rob Pipho and Paul Keller. In addition to playing in several local jazz groups and composing prolifically, Palazzolo also works with his father in one of Windsor, Ontario's large-scale wedding bands. He has performed with Joe Lovano, Terence Blanchard, Rob Pipho, Wendell Harrison, and many other top Windsor and Detroit musicians. Palazzolo works professionally as an acoustic and electric bassist for several local and national groups and will complete his Bachelor of Music from Wayne State University in the Fall of 2012.

In addition to being an accomplished drummer, Boegehold is a proficient bass player and piano player. He has studied with David Taylor and Sean Dobbins and has performed with Joe Lovano, Terence Blanchard, Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas, Carl Cafagna, Metro Jazz Voices, and Bob Mervak, among others. On the side, Blanchard is earning his Bachelor of Music degree from Wayne State University. He teaches private and group music classes and works professionally as a drummer both locally and nationally for several groups.

This free concert in Millie’s Garden is a drop-in program. Please feel free to bring stadium chairs and/or blankets for seating.
