Dealing with Holiday Stress by Awesome Chiropractic

Dealing with Holiday Stress - Awesome Chiropractic Here are some tips on how to deal with the stress brought on by all the not so awesome things about the holidays.

Dealing with Holiday Stress:

Ever hear the parody of the 12 days of Christmas song? Holiday stress ranges from putting up the lights, dealing with other shoppers, finding parking to screaming kids and relatives. No wonder we need an entire new year to kick off and get a fresh start. Dealing with holiday stress can be as simple as this…

Get adjusted and balance out the holiday stress:

You knew I was going to say that. Restoring balance to the nervous system and all the cells of the body is a sure fire way to gain control of the problem. Before you let holiday stress bring you down physically, fight back with a good working body.

Let the holiday stress out:

Express your stress to some one; just don’t be a burden to them or yourself by repeating it over and over again. The less you do this the better. Constantly talking about makes you re-live it and brings it back again. Ask for help in turning the situation around and making something positive out of it.

Release the holiday stress:

After the situation is over it is important to release it and let it go. A good way is to write it down and all the feelings associated with it. Take that piece of paper, bless it, and be thankful you are not in it anymore and then either burn it or shred it. Watching it burn can be quite soothing.

Eat some good food to combat holiday stress foods:

No one truly knows how much junk is disguised as “holiday food”. A friend of mine makes turtle candy out of Rolo’s. And because it is the holidays, we eat them.

Before you go to a party, eat something good at home. You will not be as hungry and you probably won’t over indulge in holiday garbage.

Drink a cup of herbal tea to calm your body and mind from holiday stress

Teas with some relaxing herbs such as Chamomile, Verbena and Valerian can take the edge off stress and offer you a bit of herbal anxiety relief. There are many tea companies offering relaxing blends of herbal tea that are caffeine free.

Exercise away holiday stress:

The stress of dealing with alcoholic Uncle Joe doesn’t seem so bad when you are working out. It would be even better if you could exercise outside. Physically moving your body stimulates the strongest and fastest nerves in the body and calms your brain. (This is also why you feel good after an adjustment).

Yoga is a wonderful way to exercise, move, relax and forgive this season.

Do what you want, to relieve holiday stress:

If you don’t feel like making the traditional holiday breakfast for everyone, then don’t. After all, you have been doing it for over 10 years; a little break won’t hurt anything. Just be sure to let the other people involved know well in advance. Maybe someone will carry the torch for you this year.

Change party plans, if you make a dish that is cumbersome. Get some one else to make it, or come up with an alternative. Don’t feel like going to the party? Is there a contract stating you must go? Be kind and let the host know ahead of time.

Take a walk to relieve holiday stress:

Get outside, move around and appreciate the world once again. Think of what the holidays really mean. Put a smile on your face, pick your self up, move forward and think positive.

Watch a funny movie to forget about the holiday stress;

Laughter may be the best de-stressor. This is an awesome time of year for movies.

Pray

Isn’t what this is all about after all?
