MLK Day: What's Open and Closed in Brighton
Rollerama II, Brighton District Library, downtown Milford among the places with holiday programs.
As today is Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr., Day, a number of places in Brighton are closed. Here's a quick look at notable closures:
- Brighton Area Schools
- (all branches)
- Banks (an exception being in Brighton Kroger, which is open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.)
Key places remaining open and things to do this MLK, Jr. Day include:
- Brighton Senior Center in the from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
- from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m.
- from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., hosts a Lego Design Contest all day, a class in downloading free ebooks at 2 p.m., an "extreme body makeover workshop" at 7 p.m. and an adult book discussion of Room by Emma Donoghue, also at 7 p.m. The book discussion is a drop in program; the other two require registration at 810-229-6571, ext. 227.
- ; it features a special "school's out matinee skate" from 1-4 p.m. (Cost is $6 plus skating rental, which ranges from $2-$4.)
- A special takes place starting from the Prospect Hill shopping center lot in Milford. Lineup's at 12:15 p.m. and a march to Central Park starts at 1 p.m., followed by a program in the park. The theme for the seventh annual celebration is centered on a King quote inscribed on the new MLK Memorial in Washington D.C. that says “out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.”
