Walk Now for Autism Speaks! Success!

This past Saturday, Chris, Megan and I participated in our first ever resource fair together promoting the supports and services totallysocialasd.com has to offer to individuals with HFA/Asperger and their families.  We had so much fun!  The event we were fortunate enough to participate in was the annual Walk Now for Autism Speaks located this year at the Meadowbrook Theater by Oakland University in Rochester, MI.  It was an overcast, chilly, and windy day but that did not stop the hundreds of families, children and adults on the autism spectrum and all their many supporters to come out and join the fun!  It was so uplifting to be apart of an environment where everyone not just tolerated or understood, but truly accepted and appreciated all the individuals with autism in attendance.  Any behavior meltdowns were looked at with an understanding eye opposed to one of judgement and anxiety.

Chris Rans, having been in the business of autism for over 30 years seemed to run into so many people that she knew including a father of one of her very first students at The Burger School for Students with Autism back when she was teaching many years ago.  The student is now in his thirties and it was so great for both to reminisce about the good old days and for the father to gloat about how successful his son has been throughout the years.

All in all, we came away with a feeling of success!  We reached out to many families, agencies, and even some college students interested in seeking a degree in education with a focus in ASD.  That is what we at totallysocialasd.com are all about.  If nothing else, we just want to be part of this amazing community of people wanting to empower individuals with autism.  We will continue to reach out to others by offering our supports and services throughout the year and are already scheduling a few more resource fairs for this fall!  We'll let you know where you can come and see us!

Thank you to all who donated to Autism Speaks in honor of our team!  We were able to raise $915.00 this year!  SUCCESS!
