Brighton Goes 'Hog Wild' Over Food Truck BBQ

Hog Wild BBQ, owned by Dave Price, is located at the BP Gas Station and is open Thurs. - Sun., 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Discovered last year during the Smokin' Jazz Festival in Brighton, Dave Price, owner of Hog Wild BBQ says he didn't choose Brighton for his food truck location, "Brighton chose me."

Located next to the BP Gas Station on Grand River, Price's food truck offers a variety of items including ribs, pulled pork and chicken wings and is open Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

More items have been added to the menu such as collard greens and red skin smashed potatoes due to customer requests and Price's food truck has quickly become a popular spot along the busy stretch of road for customers wanting a quick and tasty meal.

The success of his small business is comes from the sense of satisfaction, according to Price who says he enjoys the fact that people enjoy his food.

One year earlier, Price, who was working as an air conditioning repairman, was still struggling to make ends meet when friends suggested he start a food truck.

"I do a lot backyard pig roasts, so I had a lot of people tell me this is what I should be doing," he said.

Last summer, Price met Dolores Corrigan by chance during his time in Brighton as a vendor at the jazz festival and after trying his food, Price said Corrigan encouraged him to come to Brighton and set up his location.

"I really owe it all to her," Price said. "She really pushed for me to come out here and it's been great for business."

With cars lining up in the small parking lot on days when Hog Wild BBQ is open, Price admits there is really no good time to try and beat the crowds to get to his food- and the Flushing resident is happy about that.

"I love Brighton," he said. "I would love to try and move out here."

Due to the conditions of his vendor permit through Brighton Township, Hog Wild BBQ will only be around for a limited time through July, but Price says he hopes to find a more permanent location somewhere in Brighton.

With more than 40 items to choose from, Hog Wild BBQ is also available for catering of large events. For more information, check out their website at hogwildfoodcatering.com.
