Mark & Barb Binkley, owners of are gearing up for the grand opening of their second downtown Brighton business - this one a fashion boutique.
Bink & Babs, located at 334 West Main Street in the former Fabuless Jewelry & Thingz space, will open to the public on Small Business Saturday.
Barb Binkley said both her and Mark have wanted to open a boutique for forever after attending jewelry shows and seeing accessory booths here and there.
"Honestly it was meant to be the way everything came together," she said. "Main Street is in our DNA - it had to be Main Street for us. We were like Restaurant Impossible on the Food Network - they do it in two days and we did it in two weeks. We're retailers, it's in our core, so we knew what had to get done. We already had all of those connections and contacts for things like getting the sign done."
The Grand opening celebration will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a red ribbon cutting and mimosas at 10 a.m. The Livingston County Homecoming Queens will be modeling accessories from the store as well as drawings every hour for prizes. There will also be snacks and drinks throughout the day.
The boutique will carry everything from purses and handbags to seasonal items like hats and gloves.
"I've always known what i wanted, and I didn't want to have a clothing store, so you'll see there's no bottoms here," Binkley said. "So you've got your outfit put together, now you come here and accessorize."
The boutique also carries many lines of trendy costume jewelry.
"It was never appropriate to carry something like this at Cooper's," she said. "But I was a costume jewelry gore before I married into the fine jewelry business. We still love fine jewelry. We still love that you're going to come to us to get a piece that marks a significant time in your life - anniversary, engagement - and they're going to become pieces that are family heirlooms - we love that. This is something else - a girl needs both! This is to dress up your outfit.
Binkley said everything in the store is priced under $100.
As to how the boutique got its name, Bink & Babs are the Binleys' nicknames. Binkley said Babs is a common nickname for Barb and that Mark was always called Bink.
"Honestly it was on our honeymoon, we were like Bink & Babs, and we thought, 'Oh that should be a cafe or a pub or something someday,'" she said. "So that was the first thing that popped up when we realized we were going to get to do this."
Cooper & Binkley and Bink & Babs will run as completely separate stores, each with its own staff.
Binkley said she was thinking roller skates or a segway between the two stores would not be a bad idea.
