Should You Sell Your House During the Holiday Season?

Is now a good time to sell your house?

If you are considering putting your house up for sale now or by the end of the year, here are some things to think about.

Goals and Objectives

The most important thing to contemplate is what are your goals and objectives in selling your house?  Is your goal to sell as quickly as possibly because of a job transfer or change in familial status?  Have you already found another house you want to buy?  Has there been a change in your life that may warrant selling your house now?

Motivated Buyers

I have found that buyers looking at houses over the holiday season are serious about purchasing a home.  Motivated buyers are still out there even if the weather is cold, rain, snow, wind etc.  This is a busy time of year for most people and if buyers are taking the time to look at houses then they are ready to buy now.

Competition

Historically there are fewer homes for sale during the holiday season.  Sellers are waiting to put their house up for sale after the holidays or possibly even waiting for spring.  Please keep in mind that there are a limited number of buyers looking over the holidays.  If you want to sell quickly then you need to have your house priced competitively and looking its best because every showing counts.  Talk to a real estate professional about pricing and getting your house ready for sale.

In summary, you should consider if selling now is right for you based on your goals and objectives.
