5 Things to Know About Brighton Summer Activities for Kids

Check out some summer Brighton camp options that still have space available.

In our Daily 5 Things segment, Brighton Patch will share five important things about the topic of day. 

Still looking for ideas for how to occupy your child's summer? Check out some of these local options where spaces are still available.

1. Girls Lacrosse Clinic - July 29-Aug 2 6-9 pm Grades: 3-6. Join SELCRA and members of Brighton High School's Girls Varsity Lacrosse team for an exciting new clinic. Participants will learn the basics of girls lacrosse, and will have the chance to interact with Varsity Athletes. This clinic will be held at Hilton Elementary School. A lacrosse stick is required. Deadline to Register: July 25 

2. SWAT Baseball Camp - July 29-Aug 1 9-1pm 
Ages: 5-15 yrs. offered through SELCRA. The SWAT Elite camp is packed with drills that work on fundamentals of the game. Campers cycle through stations each day working on hitting, throwing, fielding, base running and agility. The stations are designed to develop good technique and be a lot of fun for players. We will divide the campers into age groups along with skill levels. Older campers will learn advanced techniques on pitching, cut-offs, bunting, base running, run downs and much more. An hour at the end of each day is dedicated to playing an instructional game where we work on sportsmanship, camaraderie and the right way to play the game. This camp will be held at Hawkins Elementary School. 

3. Crafts Galore: "Green" Garden Crafts offered through Brighton Public Library. Event takes place on July 24 from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Be creative with recycled materials. For children ages 4-9. Children ages 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Registration begins July 10.

4. Fundamentals of Football Camp - Aug 5-9 10am-12pm 
Grades: K-6 offered through SELCRA. Get in shape for the upcoming Fall Flag Football league by joining SELCRA for this preseason Football Camp.  This camp will include instruction on the fundamentals of the game including proper footwork, throwing and catching techniques, and offensive/defensive positioning.  Focus will be emphasized on sportsmanship and fair play while having some fun!  Bring a Friend to Camp Day: Registered campers can bring a friend to camp on Friday for $15.  The friend will receive a jersey and will participate in all the activities.  Coaches include current Detroit Lions Youth Camp coach Matt Lucas and former University of Michigan Offensive Lineman Pat Sharrow.  Mouth guard and flags required.  $60/$90. Deadline July 31, 2013  

5. Sunny Days Camp 6-14 year olds. June 10- Aug 30. 
Hamburg Fitness Center & Camp Day Camps provide the perfect setting for your school-age child to be both imaginative and active. Our Sunny Days Summer Camp is packed with fishing, canoeing, hiking, archery, soccer and more. Before and after care are available with all of our Day Camps. Note: There is a one time only Annual Registration Fee: $40/child or $55/Family, includes a t-shirt and supplies. Fee will be paid on the first day of camp to Hamburg Fitness Center.
