Bridal Show Bigger and Better than Ever with Local Vendors

The Here Come the Brides Bridal Show is open from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Brighton High School Field House.

Since its beginning in 2009, the Here Come the Brides Bridal Show has grown every year, according to co-owner Cathy Dedakis.

This year, the event at Brighton High School will feature 62 vendors — seven more than last year's 55 — including several new local businesses including and .

"I'm really excited for this year," Dedakis said. "It's really cool this time because we're pulling in new vendors from right on the street. That's what I love about it."

According to Dedakis, because so many brides get engaged around Christmas and New Year's, this is the busiest season for bridal bookings. She said she always advises brides to stick with professionals for their big day and to get out and learn what is out there.

Dedakis said this show is unlike others because there are games and prize giveaways in addition to the runway show and vendors.

The bridal show will run from 1-5 p.m., with the runway show beginning at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $8, or $5 with a canned food donation. The runway show will feature bridal gowns from The White Dress, and tuxedos from the will be displayed by models.

Kristy Koryzno, owner of The White Dress, said her eight models happen to be friends and family members.

"All of the dresses in the shop are sample sizes, so I really needed a wide array," she said. "So the typical 6-foot-tall, tiny person is not going to fit into our dresses very well, because our sizes are anywhere from 6 to 30. Brides are all different sizes."

This will be Koryzno's first bridal show since she opened her store last month.

"I've done public speaking my whole life, so I'm not really nervous about that aspect," she said. "I'm more nervous about coordination and making sure the timing is good, the dresses show well and people have a positive reaction. We're all really excited. My volunteers are super pumped."

Rick Bourbonais, owner of the Brighton Tux Shop, has been participating in the show since its debut in 2009.

"Bridal shows are not the most important ways for us to generate and meet new brides, but it's one of the best," he said. "In our industry, it's hard to advertise because just about everybody needs a tuxedo. So bridal shows like this are a great way to meet people, and Here Come the Brides pulls a lot of brides into the building. It's great for the vendors and the customers."

Bourbonais will also provide four of his own models — including his son. The men will model 16 tuxedo and vest combinations.

Dedakis said her goal was to get a show in Brighton because it's her hometown.

Dedakis' next show will be Feb. 18 in Lake Orion.
