Dealership's Wrenching for a Cure Fundraiser Raises Money to Fight Breast Cancer

Brighton Ford will match all donations through its service center, up to $10, through Oct. 31.

For the rest of the month, every employee will include something pink as part of his or her daily wardrobe as part of the fourth annual Wrenching for a Cure fundraiser to raise money during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Now through Oct. 31, Brighton Ford will take donations through its service center and match them dollar for dollar, up to $10, each time a customer has service done.

Last year, Brighton Ford raised about $3,500 for the American Cancer Society, according to Scott Spitler, one of the dealership's owners. The goal this year is to raise at least $4,000 for breast cancer research.

"Our service techs had some personal experiences with people having breast cancer themselves," Spitler said. "And they wanted to make a point of getting more of an awareness out for it, so they came up with the concept Wrenching for a Cure. So they turn wrenches to help raise money for breast cancer awareness."

Members of the service department came together and decided to wear pink shirts to gain donations while repairing cars. Then they went to Spitler and asked whether the company could match donations from customers.

"It's been a pretty good success," Spitler said.

This year, Brighton Ford is also accepting donations through its Facebook page for the first time. To donate online, click the "Wrenching for a Cure" tab under the Brighton Ford Facebook photo and follow the directions.

"Facebook is just another avenue of communication out there," Spitler said about this latest addition to the fundraiser. "The masses are communicating through social media, and so are we."
