GM Promotes Search for 300,000 Cancer Prevention Study Volunteers

In the United States, there are nearly 12 million people who have survived cancer – and countless more who have avoided it – who will be celebrating birthdays this year. You can join the movement for more birthdays and fight back against cancer by enrolling in a new research study.

"When you hear the words 'you've got cancer' and you've been diagnosed, time stops for a little bit, honestly," Melissa Howell, a breast cancer survivor and General Motors' executive director of Human Resources in North America, says in a video created by GM to promote the Cancer Prevention Study - 3 (CPS-3).

"It really makes you question your own mortality and also makes you question what in my life, other than genetics, have I done that could have potentially caused this?"

To help determine the effect of lifestyle-related cancer risk factors, the American Cancer Society's Epidemiology Research Program is inviting men and women 30-65 years old who have no personal history of cancer to join this historic research study. The ultimate goal is to enroll at least 300,000 adults from various racial and ethnic backgrounds from across the United States.
