Go Fly A Kite: Free Kits Available in Time for Festival

Brighton District Library will offer free kite kits kids can decorate for Lyon Township Kite Festival.

The Lyon Township Kite Festival in New Hudson will be held at the James F Atchison Memorial Park on Saturday, June 4. 

So that every child has an opportunity to fly a kite at the official kite festival for free, neighboring libraries are hosting a children's kite decorating program. The festival kite committee will bring the kite kits to Brighton District Library at 2 p.m. May 21.

Kids and kite aficionados of all ages are invited to the Lyon Township Kite Festival, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at James Atchison Memorial Park in New Hudson.

In addition to the kite flying portion of the festival, the “Spark Plugs” will showcase a classic car display for auto enthusiasts. Inflatable moonwalks for kids, an Elvis impersonator,  strolling magician and various cartoon characters will also be a part of the festival. 

In addition, musical entertainment will be provided by the South Lyon East High School band, along with their drum line and color guard section. With the help of the Lyon Twp. community and organizations like the Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club of South Lyon, the free Kite Festival will give families an opportunity to enjoy themselves at a community festival for no cost.

Kites of all shapes and sizes will fill the air at Oakland County’s best kept secret for kite flying — the bluff-top park that overlooks the beautiful hamlet area of New Hudson.

Don’t know how to fly a kite?  You can learn at the Kite Festival to launch, fly and land kites. If you don’t use a free kite kit provided by the festival, you can purchase one at the Kite Festival.
