Here are five tidbits of news and information we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

1. The weather

Today will be cloudy, with an 80 percent chance of snow, and a high near 22 degrees with wind chill values as low as -1 and new snow acumulation between 1 and 3 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will be cloudy, with a 40 percent chance of snow showers, and a low around 11 degrees with wind chill values as low as -1.

2. Gasoline prices

Here's a quick survey of the lowest per-gallon prices for regular gasoline in the Brighton area as of Thursday night, according to DetroitGasPrices.com via GasBuddy.com:

  • Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd: $3.33
  • Marathon, 5756 Whitmore Lake Rd: $3.42
  • Mobil, 9925 Spencer Rd: $3.43

3. Brighton Area Networking Group Meets

The Brighton Area Networking Group (BANG) meets today at Two Brothers Coffee at 8 a.m. to discuss job opportunities, business, investments, trends and current events. The goal of the group is to enhance the financial well being of the membership.

4. Brighton Optimist Club Essay Contest

5. On This Day in History

According to History.com, on this day in 1905, at the Premier Mine in Pretoria, South Africa, a 3,106-carat diamond is discovered during a routine inspection by the mine's superintendent. Weighing 1.33 pounds, and christened the "Cullinan," it was the largest diamond ever found.
