1. The weather

Today will be cloudy, with flurries before 8 a.m., and a high near 29 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will be cloudy, with a low around 16 degrees.

2. Gasoline prices

Here's a quick survey of the lowest per-gallon prices for regular gasoline in the Brighton area as of Thursday night, according to DetroitGasPrices.com via GasBuddy.com:

  • Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd: $3.74
  • Marathon, 6550 Whitmore Lake Rd: $3.75
  • CITGO, 1050 E Grand River: $3.79

3. Brighton Area Networking Group Meets

The Brighton Area Networking Group (BANG) meets today at Two Brothers Coffee at 8 a.m. to discuss job opportunities, business, investments, trends and current events. The goal of the group is to enhance the financial well being of the membership.

4. Paint & Pour Party

Studio West Gallery will host a Paint & Pour party tonight at 7 p.m. Bring your favorite beverages and snacks to Studio West, and make sure to show up early to pour yourself a drink. Our gifted instructor will walk you, step-by-step, through replicating that day’s featured painting. Classes run for approximately 2-3 hours with FREQUENT sip breaks. You will leave with a painting that is uniquely yours, and we guarantee you will be amazed at the artwork you will have created.

5. On This Day in History

According to History.com, on this day in 1903, toy store owner and inventor Morris Michtom places two stuffed bears in his shop window, advertising them as Teddy bears. Michtom had earlier petitioned President Theodore Roosevelt for permission to use his nickname, Teddy. The president agreed and, before long, other toy manufacturers began turning out copies of Michtom's stuffed bears, which soon became a national childhood institution.
