Here are five tidbits of news and information we hope you'll find useful or entertaining.

1. The weather

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 76 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will be cloudy, with a 50 percent chance of showers, and a low around 48 degrees.

2. Gasoline prices

Here's a quick survey of the lowest per-gallon prices for regular gasoline in the Brighton area as of Wednesday night, according to DetroitGasPrices.com via GasBuddy.com:

  • Costco, 6700 Whitmore Lake Rd: $3.83
  • CITGO, 1050 E Grand River: $3.83
  • Meijer, 8650 W Grand River Ave: $3.85

3. Brighton Optimist Club Meeting

The Brighton Optimist Club meets today at 7:30 a.m. at the Bauery Restaurant at Mount Brighton Ski Area. Buffet breakfast costs $7. First-time visitors eat for free.

4. Medicare 101 for Those Turning 65

St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church will host Medicare 101 today at 7 p.m. The seminar will teach the basics about Medicare, Medicare Advantage Plans and Prescription Drug Coverage. It will be presented by Patty Flynn, Resource Advocate and certified MMAP Counselor with Livingston County Catholic Charities. Please R.S.V.P. to Patty at 517-545-5944 x122.
