Great Escape: Island Lake

Clear your senses and get back to nature with this quiet escape available at any time.

Living in Brighton we are very fortunate to have Kensington Metropark just a short drive from home, but just across the expressway from Kensington is Island Lake State Park.

Here, getting away to enjoy nature is a bit more peaceful. I had always known about Island Lake but really just recently took the time to enjoy it in the last few years.

Much less populated than Kensington, Island Lake offers three unique trails that wind and bend through woods, around lakes and near plenty of unspoiled wildlife.

Trails will lead you through open fields, and under a canopy of trees rounding Island Lake, where no cars can be seen driving past, and only the sounds of your footsteps and birds overhead fill your ears.Β

Offering trails from 4 to 9 miles long, Island Lake is the kind of nature adults can escape to without running into loads of stroller-pushing moms and bike-riding kids. The trails are more secluded and unkept, creating the quiet we all yearn for.Β
