Hey Baby! Do You Follow State and National Baby Name Trends

Some baby names are universally adored, while others have more regional popularity. One famous name, however, has dropped from the most popular list for the first time in more than 50 years.

The recently released a list of most popular 2011 baby names across both the United States and Michigan.

The Social Security website offers lists of baby names for each year since 1880.  Click here for the most popular names when you were born.

One name you won't see, however, is Elvis. He has left the building. For the first time since 1954, Elvis has slipped out of the top 1,000 names.

“This news about Elvis has me all shook up,” Social Security Commissioner Michael J. Astrue said in a written statement. “But that’s all right mama. I’m confident that, next year, America’s new parents can’t help falling in love with Elvis again and moving it back into the top 1,000.”

A free iPhone app recently was released that allows users to search the most popular baby names of the past 130 years using official Social Security data. You can browse top names, search for a particular name or choose the "Surprise Me" button.
