Michigan Challenge Balloonfest Kicks Off in Howell

The annual weekend of hot air balloon races will take place at Howell High School.

Hot air balloons will fill the sky this weekend over Howell, as pilots prepare for one of the biggest ballooning events in southeast Michigan.

The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest kicks off Thursday afternoon at Howell High School and continues through Sunday.

Nearly 50 balloon pilots will compete in the festival, which is about so much more than balloons.

All weekend long, attendees can enjoy carnival rides, artist booths and family-centric entertainment, such as jugglers and magicians.

New this year are B-25 flyovers and rides from the Livingston County Spencer J. Hardy Airport, a NASA Exploration Experience Trailer and a Balloonfest Basketball Tournament on Saturday.
