Weekend Picks: Harvest Fest, Hayrides and Cause for a Party

Here are a few things to do in and around Brighton this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Don't worry: Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our picks for this weekend:

1. Save the Wildlife 5K Run/Walk

Where/when: Howell Conference & Nature Center, 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Why go? The third annual Save the Wildlife 5K Run/Walk benefits the wildlife program at the Howell Conference & Nature Center. Participants may choose from a 5K trail run, 5K trail walk and a one-mile wildlife walk. The course winds along trails and roads throughout the nature center's nearly 300 acres.

Pricing: $25 for the 5K trail run/walk, $15 for the one-mile fun wildlife walk. Fees include a T-shirt and entry into the Wild Wonders Wildlife Park and are nonrefundable. 

2. Brighton Harvest Fest

Where/when: Mill Pond Lane at North 1st Street, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? This is the last farmers market of the season. Enjoy the entertainment while the children have a ball in the Moon Bounce. Celebrate harvest time and watch pumpkin painting and chair caning demonstrations.

3. Cemetery Tour

Where/when: , 11 a.m. Saturday.

Why go? The Brighton Area Historical Society's hourlong cemetery tour will feature information about nine prominent Brighton families whose members are buried in Old Village Cemetery. The tour will begin at the cemetery’s new entrance above the gazebo at .

Pricing: Free

4. Cause for a Party

Where/when: , 7 p.m. Saturday.

Why go? Cause for a party will feature live music from The Out of Favor Boys, a silent auction, themed martinis, giveaways and more. A portion of the martini sales, 10 percent of your bill and all fundaising proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and breast cancer research. 

Pricing: Free admission.

5. Horse-Drawn Hayride

Where/when: Kensington Metropark Farm Center, 2240 W Buno Rd, 12 p.m. Sunday.

Why go? Take a relaxing horse-drawn hayride past the fields and through the woods.

Pricing: $5 per adult, $3 for children and seniors, free for children 2 years and younger, plus $5 daily park admission.
